Florida Star Now International Star

Florida Star Now International Star

(Yokohama, Japan) – Pro Wrestling Fusion and NWA Florida Junior Heavyweight Champion Craig Classic wrestled his first match of his current tour in Japan for Big Japan Pro Wrestling on December 4 at Bunka Taiikukan in Yokohama in front of 2,000+ fans. Craig teamed with Hashimoto Kazuki to take on Kawakami Takakazu and Takumi Tsukamoto in a match that aired that same night on Samurai TV. Craig's team lost as Takakazu forced Kazuki to submit in 11:04. Video of that match can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDTzEWI0JBw

BJW is excited to have Classic back as they talked about him representing BJW in the United States and his winning the NWA Florida Junior Heavyweight Title. The magazines all took photos of Classic with the belt as well.

BJW has a few days off and then a few smaller shows before kicking off their year-end tour on December 13 at the Fukuoka Hakata Star Lanes where Craig will team with Takumi Tsukamoto to take on Ryuichi Kawakami & Kazuki Hashimoto.

Then on 12/15/09 at the Osaka Tsurumi Ryokuchi Hanahaku Memorial Park Exhibition Hall there is a show featuring BJW and Osaka Pro talent. Craig will be teaming with his regular partner, MASADA to take on Shadow WX & Kanjuro Matsuyama.

Craig Classic was trained in Japan, he came up through the dojo there. He continues to train there under Daisuke Sekimoto. More recently the New Japan trainer has been working with Craig and Masato Tanaka has taken him under his wing.

Classic is on his 10th tour of Japan since 2006. Craig has wrestled against stars of FMW, BJW, Dragon Gate, DDT, K-Dojo and New Japan. He has wrestled everyone from death match guys like Abdullah Kobayashi, Shadow WX, Jun Kasai, Jaki Numazawa and Ryuji Ito. to guys who have competed in the J-Cup like Onryo. Craig has worked with guys like Daisuke Sekimoto, who wrestles everywhere, Mens Teioh who was part of Kaientai and wrestled for WWE & ECW, KUDO, who the internet marks love. Craig has also worked with Kota Ibushi, who is main eventing the EVOLVE show in a few weeks, at the Wrestle-Expo show, which was like an indy wrestling showcase in 2006.

He is coming off an incredible run of matches here in America against Gran Akuma, Chris Jones, Christopher Gray, Prince Iaukea, Kyle O'Reilly, Jerrelle Clark and TJ Perkins to name a few. Now he is back in Japan where he will be wrestling for companies other than BJW. As a matter of fact he was just booked on the big New Year's show in Korakuen Hall which is co-promoted by DDT, BJW and Kaientai Dojo.

Craig Classic returns to the US at the end of February and will be available for bookings.

NWA Fusion Star Nominated for Wrestling Rookie of the Year

NWA Fusion Star Nominated for Wrestling Rookie of the Year

(Miami, FL) – Chris Jones, former NWA Florida Junior Heavyweight champion, has been nominated by Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online for its annual Rookie of the Year Award.

Jones, who’s had an incredible year—wrestling in the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup and stepping his game to the next level—has the full support of Pro Wrestling Fusion promoter Joseph Cabibbo.

“Chris has really come into his own,” Cabibbo said after the nomination was announced. “It’s obvious that he deserves this recognition. I’m glad that a noted outlet like Wrestling Observer recognizes Chris’s talent.”

Only subscribers to Wrestling Observer’s newsletter, whether online or in print, are eligible to vote for the award.

Deadline is January 7th, 2010.

“I’m honored to be nominated,” Jones said. “I hope people go to WrestlingObserver.com and vote for me!”

Jones, who recently lost the Junior Heavyweight title to Craig Classic in Tampa, was embroiled in a heated feud with former WCW superstar Prince Iaukea that will go down as a legendary mat war. But Cabibbo says that’s only helping Jones right now.

“It’s good for Chris to engage in the best competition that’s available,” Cabibbo said. “It will only help him down the road.”

Jones says he hopes to be the next Florida star to win this honor. Erick Stevens, Sarasota native, was the Wrestling Observer Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Jones can next be seen by wrestling fans at Pro Wrestling Fusion’s event at the PAL Center in Fort Pierce, FL on Saturday, December 19.

SIX QUESTIONS WITH UNDEFEATED “KING MO” LAWAL

SIX QUESTIONS WITH UNDEFEATED “KING MO” LAWAL
WHO WILL OPPOSE “IRON” MIKE WHITEHEAD
IN LIVE, SHOWTIME® TELEVISED STRIKEFORCE: EVOLUTION MATCHUP
_________________________________________________________

Tickets For STRIKEFORCE: Evolution On Sale NOW!

SAN JOSE, Calif., (Dec. 16, 2009) — Undefeated “King Mo” Lawal will make his STRIKEFORCE debut and only his second mixed martial arts MMA appearance in the United States when he meets two-time NAIA wrestling All-American “Iron” Mike Whitehead in one of five televised fights on SHOWTIME® on Saturday, Dec. 19, from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Lawal, a former three-time U.S. Senior National wrestling champion and former NCAA National collegiate wrestling champion (Central Oklahoma), recently signed a multi-fight agreement with STRIKEFORCE. He has been training in Southern California with fellow STRIKEFORCE competitors Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Benji Radach, and Fabricio Werdum, among others.

In his last fight, King Mo dusted aside MMA legend Mark Kerr in 25 seconds on Aug. 28. The charismatic, outspoken 28-year-old Lawal, whose public feud with Quinton “Rampage’’ Jackson has been well-documented, is currently living in Temecula, Calif., by way of Mufiesboro, Tenn.

He recently answered Six Questions posed to him regarding his upcoming matchup.

QUESTION: What do you think about your Dec. 19 opponent Mike Whitehead?

KING MO: “I think Mike Whitehead is a good fighter. I’m not going to change anything or do anything differently. I just have to fight smart. We were both college wrestlers and have similar backgrounds. It should be a great fight.”

QUESTION: You’re training with some incredible fighters in Orange County. How has that helped you and have they given you any advice?

KING MO: “It’s been great. You got guys like Dan Cormier, Benji Radach and “Mayhem” Miller. There’s just a lot of guys and a lot of them have experience fighting for STRIKEFORCE. I haven’t really asked for advice because everyone is different. I’ve fought in a lot of big venues myself and under a lot of stressful situations and a lot of places that were just overwhelming. I’ve wrestled in Iran and in Russia and fought in Budapest. I’ve seen it all as far as people rooting against me. So I think I have a lot to teach those guys, as well.”

QUESTION: “What about fighting in Tokyo. Did you enjoy that experience?

KING MO: “I loved fighting over there. The food, the people, and just experiencing a different culture. But I’m happy to be back and fighting in the States. This will be my second fight here (he knocked out Mark Kerr in Kansas City in August).”

QUESTION: You have expressed interest in fighting heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. Do you think you’ll get a shot at him?

KING MO: “Well, we both have fights on the horizon that we have to take care of first. He’ll have his hands full against guys like Fabricio (Werdum) and (Alistair) Overeem. I know I have to keep winning and so does he. He’s not fighting very often so I don’t know. It’s up to STRIKEFORCE at this point.”

QUESTION: What are you like outside the cage when you’re not fighting?

KING MO: “I’m pretty boring. I don’t anything too exciting. I like to just chill and listen to music. I actually like to watch boxing on TV.”

QUESTION: Who are some of your favorite fighters?

KING MO: “I like Paul Williams, (Floyd) Mayweather, and (Manny) Pacquiao. I like to watch old tapes of (Muhammad) Ali, (Larry) Holmes. I like (Kelly) Pavlik and the Klitschko brothers. I like them all. And the SHOWTIME tournament with the Super Six has been great. I watched the (Andre) Ward-(Mikkel) Kessler fight. Like I said, I like it all.”

Tickets for Dec. 19, priced from $30, are on sale at the HP Pavilion ticket office as well as at all Ticketmaster locations (800-745-3000), Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com) and STRIKEFORCE’S official website (www.strikeforce.com).

In the main event, undefeated former STRIKEFORCE World Middleweight (185 pounds) Champion Cung Le (6-0) will square off with hard-hitting Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (17-6). STRIKEFORCE World Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson (16-2) will battle Interim Lightweight Champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez (16-2) in a long-awaited rematch to determine the undisputed king of STRIKEFORCE’s 155 pound division. Former United States Olympic wrestling silver medalist Matt “The Law” Lindland (21-6) will face off with submission expert “Jacare” Souza (10-2).
Doors at HP Pavilion will open at 5 p.m. PT for the STRIKEFORCE: “Evolution” event presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and the first preliminary bout will begin at 6:00 PM, PT.
The live SHOWTIME telecast will begin at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

About STRIKEFORCE
STRIKEFORCE (www.strikeforce.com) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its “Shamrock vs. Gracie” event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose.

Alice In Chains Concert Review

by Lew Bowman

What can you say about one of the most underrated, legendary, and original recording acts ever in history? Well, after seeing their most recent concert effort; "nothing but great things...and the future looks very bright for lots more Alice In Chains"

On December 11th 2009, Alice in Chains (AIC) took the stage at The Joint, an intimate concert venue housed inside the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and proceeded to let everyone there know that AIC was still alive and fully prepared to kick some ass.

The band consisting of two members from the original line-up; guitarist/vocalist, Jerry Cantrell, and drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Innez [Inez replaced Mike Starr on bass in 1993], and the latest addition to the band, William DuVall, stepping into the vast shoes of lead vocalist Layne Staley [who sadly left us all in 2002].

Even though I always approach anything NEW with an open mind, It's hard for me to get past popular bands who have lost an original member or members, especially a KEY band member like the lead-vocalist, re-forming with new personnel under the same name. It's not only the potential for the band to stray from the sound that led you to them in the first place, but it's also like having a few friends out for drinks and one of them doesn't show up sending a complete stranger in his stead - you lose some of that endearing familiarity. But...my fears were laid to rest almost immediately.

They opened up with a searing version of "Rain When I Die" from their second studio effort "Dirt" and seamlessly slid into "Them Bones" from the same album - both songs are some of their earliest work and sounded better than ever. Layne Staley will always be missed, but here it was clear that the this incarnation of the band was still "the real deal" and ready to carry the torch first lit by Layne and Jerry back in the late 80's. Another great tune from "Dirt" titled "Dam That River" came next followed by "Again" from their eponymously titled 1995 studio release.

The venue (The Joint), has great acoustics and houses a nice sized stage placed in an nice-sized setting. The powers that be did a good job of making sure the place was constructed right, to properly accommodate the long list of celebs who would grace their stage. FOH (front of house) for AIC had the room down to a science; thundering-loud ballsy metal, yet still clear and legible. Rich hewn colors beamed down in front of a full-sized image screen setting the tone for the sometimes ethereal harmonies and music that Alice In Chains is revered for world-wide.

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell switched guitars and took center stage, announcing it was "time for some NEW stuff" as the mellow yet haunting "Your Decision" from "Black Gives way To Blue" was performed flawlessly, giving fans ears a dynamic change of pace before erupting into "Check Your Brain" also from the latest effort. The latest effort which I can only describe as NEW vintage AIC - more hit songs adding to their already sizeable cornucopia of fan favorites.

The song choices reflected a very nice mix of all their studio efforts with the new stuff peppered in tastefully. Did they do all MY favorites? No...but how could they with such a long list of hits. I will leave you with this; I know for sure the fans and this journalist were left quite satisfied after a smoking evening of music from one of the greatest rock bands in history. A band that is still very fresh, vibrant, and obviously has much more to share with their fans.

If you get an opportunity to catch this band in your area, even if you're not already a fan -

I highly recommend it!
